Here we are at another first of the month … the day I reserve to confess one of my gardening oops – fondly known as GOOPs. Traveling has kept my hands out of in-the-dirt gardening for the past month but I still have a good faux pas to share.
October 1, 2009. Normally on the first of the month I share one of my Gardening Oops – GOOPS for short. But this month my focus is on an avoided GOOP.
September 16, 2006 – and birthday wishes to my first-borne. Yesterday was Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day; a monthly event originated by May Dreams Gardens when garden bloggers post whatever is blooming in their gardens for everyone else to see. Travel and some computer issues (lost many photos including those of my peegee hydrangea) kept me from posting yesterday but - better late than never – here's what's blooming in joene's garden.
I have just one question for anyone who has never planted moonflowers (ipomoea alba) – what are you waiting for? Yes, in northern gardens they take some time to flower, and yes, they must be started indoors to insure adequate time for flowering before frost, but just look at the rewards. The five-inch diameter blossoms in this photo opened last night and remained open into the cloudy morning – a few smaller blossoms had opened over the previous three nights – and the vines are covered with buds ready to open.
