Bloomin’ September

With just half an inch registering on the rain gauge in the last few weeks and minimal watering on this gardener's part, it's a wonder of nature that so many plants are still attractive. Connecticut is officially about 5.5 inches below normal rainfall amounts for the year.

Misidentification – a gardener’s faux pas

Here it is September 1. Labor Day weekend is just around the corner and my mind is busy conjuring up lists of all the gardening tasks I'd like to complete before cold weather sets in. Admittedly, it's difficult to think cold right now. Temperatures in Connecticut today rose to the 90's. Regardless of the outdoor temperatures, though, the first of each month is my gardening confessional day - time to confess one of my gardening blunders, or as I've dubbed them Gardening Oops – GOOPs for short.

A Connecticut garden in bloom

Mid-month snuck up on me, but a quick stroll with the camera through the gardens this morning produced some interesting sites to share on this July 2010 Garden Bloggers Bloom Day. Connecticut has had August weather – hazy, hot, and humid – in July.
