Gardening Oops – February 2010

Shoulda, woulda, coulda.  That's my gardening oops this month.  Here at joene's garden, the first of each month is Gardening oops -  GOOPs for short – Day. On GOOPs day, I fess up one of my gardening blunders in the hopes that you might avoid a GOOPs of your own after reading one of mine.  I figure we all learn from our mistakes, and often from mistakes of others.  So why not share our mistakes with each other and, therefore, enhance everyone's overall chance to learn.

New Year’s GOOPs – a gardener’s faux pas

Happy 2010 to all my gardening friends and fellow bloggers.  This being the first day of the month, and a new year to boot, it's time for me to fess up one of the many gardening oops – GOOPs for short – I've made in my three-plus decades of garden dabbling.

Gardening Oops (GOOPs)- last of 2009

December 1, 2009.  Welcome to the last of my gardening blunder posts for 2009.  I started writing about my gardening faux pas back in May.  After being inspired by the outpouring of garden bloggers who post photos of what's blooming in their gardens on  Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, the brainchild of Carol at May Dreams Gardens, I figured it might be fun to tweak Carol's idea a bit and declare the first of each month as Gardening Oops Day, GOOPs for short.  On GOOPs Day, I rehash one of my gardening blunders, and ask other gardeners to do the same – come on, admit it, you've made some blunders too.  Admittedly, GOOPs has not taken off like GBBD, but I really didn't expect it to - I don't have near the number of readers as May Dreams Gardens.  Still, one person, Debbie at A Garden of Possibilities, has stood steadfastly by my GOOPs idea and joined in nearly every month.  To Debbie, and others who have stopped by to add their GOOPS – thank you.

Missed Opportunity – A Gardening Oops (Goops)

fall leaves-2 11-2009 November 1, 2009.  Ahh Fall.  When trees so easily offer their leaves back to the earth.  Leaves cover everything – porches, patios, lawns, and gardens. I continue miss the opportunity to collect enough of these leaves into accessible piles where they will naturally follow the steps of decomposition and become leaf mold.  Often, at this time of year, my husband and I are strapped for time and anxious to get the next load of leaves off the lawn.  So we blow or rake them into the adjacent woods.  Sounds perfectly normal.  But when I want to access what, after a couple of years, has become leaf mold, I have to struggle through fallen branches, rocks, tree stumps, and uneven, sloping grounds … and this is a Gardening Oops – what I call GOOPS.
