Simply said, Delightful.

white crocus 4 Being somewhat superstitious - for instance never, I mean never say the Red Sox have a game tied up until they make the very last out – I've hesitated to mention the weather that has blessed Connecticut gardeners and other Nutmeggers this week.  I think any possible jinx from me is passed though, the latest weather forecast is calling for cooler temperatures, rain, and wind early next week.  So … how to describe the last few days?  Wonderfully warm during the day yet chilly at night, soothing sunshine, refreshing spring air, in a word  «Delightful.»

Lost in luscious narratives

Ooohhh … there's purple beans and white cucumbers; blushed red lettuce and 'diminutive, spoon-shaped' greens; bi-color sweet corn with 'soft-crisp texture and ambrosial flavor' and don't forget those 'perfectly round' pumpkins with 'fine-grained flesh and superb flavor.'  Nix the sugar plums – they're yesterday's dreams – I have visions of freshly picked salads dancing in my head.

Plant bargains, photo contest

phlox paniculata-blue paradise-1_edited There are two events of note for gardeners in south central Connecticut.  One is the July 17 deadline for the garden photo contest sponsored by Staehly Tree Farm and Gardens.  While I'm too occupied with family and work to enter this contest – plus I still need to plant the two white butterfly bushes and the many hosta recently purchased from Staehly's - I am enjoying the scent and flowers of the Phlox paniculata 'Blue Paradise' I purchased at Staehly's last season.
