Worth the wait

I hoped this would happen. For December's Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day my amaryllis 'Christmas Gift' looked like this:

About 10 days later the flower stalk stood about a foot tall. Somewhere around 15 days after the photo above the flower stalk stood 18 inches tall and a secondary shoot came into view.

By January 8, one flower was fully open.

The second flower was opening.

And the second flower stalk brought more promise.

Each morning since I've been greeted by stunning six-inch white blossoms. - their color is as fresh and bright as the newly fallen snow just outside the window – and I'm reminded of the kindness of the woman who gave this bulb to me. It's truly a wonderful gift that just keeps on giving.

Now head over to May Dreams Gardens, the host of the Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day party on the 15th of each month, to feast your eyes on blooms in other gardens

Pretty amaryllis but I liked your previous post on liking the snow. Me too.

Thanks, D. It's a good thing I enjoy snow ... we certainly have a good amount right now.

And so welcome, Cat, when the outside world is covered with snow.

Thanks for stopping by.

I'm still waiting for mine to bloom too... one is on its way but the other is just a nubbin rising from the bulb. I think they lose vigor after several years, and I've brought them back several times now. This is the latest they've bloomed. So I loved seeing your white, elegant, pretty lady as a substitute!

That is a lovely selection - the bold red ones are too much, but yours is just delicious!

Laurrie, I've given amaryllis as gifts but never grew one myself until now - always left me off the purchase list. Watching the buds sprout and the blossoms unfold is a new and very pleasurable experience ... one I plan to continue for many winters to come.

Glad my lady can fill the void until your's shines.

Beautiful. There's something so elegant about a white amaryllis.
