Welcome to Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, December 15, 2010, the highly popular blog meme hosted at May Dreams Gardens where Carol shares photos and commentary on the current blooms in her gardens and asks others to do the same.
For this month's GBBD I'm looking back at what was in bloom, and if not for today's ever present arctic wind I'd have photos of astilbe, hydrangea, and echinacea seed heads to share, but brrrrr it's cold outside!
What is in bloom? Not much.
Tiny rosemary blossoms … 
and my old, stand-by violets.
While enjoying what is, I can also look into the future as promised by this swelling amaryllis bud. Maybe it will show off for January's Bloom Day?
Now, as my zone 6a gardens in south-central Connecticut continue to shiver in December's cold and await their first decent blanket of snow – only dustings so far - I'll visit May Dreams Gardens to feast my eyes on the bursts of blooming color shared by gardeners fortunate enough to be greenhouse growers or living in more bloom-friendly warm-weather zones. Hi Joene, This morning it actually hurt to be outside walking the dog - it's nice to have a little blooming inside, like your violets and the sweet little rosemary bloom, and also nice to have our memories of blooms past.

Nice to have blooms past to show. We have cold and snow so not much more to see than white and blooms past. I too have standby violets. I did not post them, your violets are very pretty.

Cyndy, On cold days like this I'd be happy to curl up in front of the fire with a good gardening book and dream of gardens to come.

Donna, I know some people don't like the sweet little violet plants but their long-lasting flowers are often the only blooms I have during the winter. The plants are so easy to care for I can't imagine not having a few on hand. In fact I just might seek out a few more.

Joene, It wasn't until I saw your Amaryllis poking through the soil that I realized I forgot to buy my bulbs this year. I did get my paperwhites started and the first batch is blooming now so I'll have to enjoy just those this year.

Just about everyone I have contact with is having a very busy season, Debbie. You're not alone in the forgot department. Enjoy your paperwhites. All the bulbs I managed to order are resting, I hope confortably, underground now.
We could use some snow!
