Columbus Day Weekend in East Haddam

Fans of Ballek's Garden Center in East Haddam, Connecticut take note. Ballek's Columbus Day Weekend Tag Sale, October 9 through 11.

During this event the family owned garden center offers deals on perennials, trees and shrubs,

houseplants,

and ornamentation ...

They carry the good stuff that will last for years. I know one fellow garden blogger, Gardening Asylum, picked up some great deals during Ballek's July tag sale. Their end of season sale - directions here – stands to be as worthwhile.

I love plant sales like this one, though they can be a terrible drain on my pocket book. I always think of just one or two things I need to purchase, then end up with bunches of others not on my list. Just seeing all the gorgeous displays stimulates my gardening juices.

- Laurrie: Your blooms are lovely and precocious I think! Like Layanee's, my clematis is only in bud, yours are so much further along. And my iris (I have Beverly Sills too) is only budding, nowhere near open yet. How different each garden is, even in the same general area. Happy Spring!
- Layanee: Your clematis are so much further along than mine. Mine are still in bud but I do have high hopes of blooms soon. It is a lusty month of May this year isn't it?
