Unexpected beauty

Hog sphinx moth on hydrangea-1 7-09_edited While picking flowers for inside arrangements I came across this moth resting quietly on a hydrangea blossom.  Not being one to pass up the chance to pick up a cool blog photo I grabbed the shot. Google led to Moths in a Connecticut Yard, a website with numerous thumbnail photos of various local moths – isn't the Internet fantastic!  I think I identified the moth as Hog Sphinx (Darapsa myron), but I'd love to get some confirmation from a real moth expert.

Sometimes the most unexpected beauty reveals itself at the most unexpected times.
